Firewood

 Do you have any measures against global warming ? We turned the heating into firewood. When a fallen tree rots, 25 times more methane gas is generated. Growing forests and using firewood creates an earth-friendly cycle. 

We chose a small stove of "Jotul F3". 

Our house is not large, so this one will keep all the rooms warm. I am surprised at the power of wood. 

地球温暖化対策を何かしていますか？　私たちは薪ストーブを導入しました。木が倒れて放置されると、腐って25倍のメタンガスを発生するそうです。人が燃やすことで環境にやさしいサイクルが生まれます。選んだのはヨツールのF3という小さなストーブですが、４LDKの全てが温まります。木のパワーってすごいですね。

最近は住宅街向けの煙の少ない薪ストーブもあるようですが、薪が簡単に手に入る環境というのも必要なので、難しいですね。

Granny square blanket 膝掛け

 This blanket is really easy to make. The patterns will be found on the internet for free. There seems to be a free video ? 

What is interesting is you can make it as big as you want, with your favorite color.

グラニースクエアーのブランケットを編みました。編み方はとても簡単で、編み図もネットで無料でのっています。大きさも色も好きなようにできるのが面白いところですね。去年は３色使い、今年は２色で仕上げました。意外と暖かいのですよ、秋支度にぜひどうぞ

This is my last year's work. I used 3 colors, look a little vintage. 

And this year's work. I used only 2 colors. 

The blanket is warmer than I imagine, How about getting ready for autumn ?

Maybe I will knit another one :)

Traces of owls

 Ninox Japonica is a small owl and coming in summer. They likes insects, beetles, butterflies, moths. Summer morning I can find after their meal under the trees in the garden like this.

It's a beautiful drop. Involuntarily I drew them.

　アオバズクは小さなフクロウで、夏になると渡来してきます。昆虫を食べていますが、食べにくいカブトムシのツノとか翅はこのように食べ残します。木の下にあった綺麗な落としものを、思わずスケッチしました。

大きな木があると、昼間そこで寝ているそうですが、夜行性のためなかなか見れない。いつか夏の夜の庭でアオバズクを目撃したいです。　ちなみに赤が入っている翅は外来種だそう。どんどん食べてね

Perfect mannequin

  This is a dress sewn at the end of summer. The pattern is "The Ellis & Hattie" of Merchant & Mills.  

　 I tell you it is very convenient to have own mannequin for sewing. ( It better to buy a small torso and fit it to our body shape. ) I chose the torso to fit my shoulder width. It's embarrassing to show, you can see my real size when the mannequin takes off the clothes. 

I padding cotton in bust, Hips, waist. Wrapped whit a slightly wider lace. This will make it easier to sizing when sewing a dress, coat, jacket, etc. Inside cotton is added or reduced when the size changes. 

　若い時はきゃしゃな体型をしていましたが、年とともにすっかりオババになりました。しかし本来の目的であるお楽しみは服を作って着ることですから、とくに問題はないのです。写真でおわかりのように胸やウェスト、ヒップにまで綿を詰めております。自分の体型と同じトルソーをお持ちになると、服作りのサイズ合わせのとき大変便利です。私の場合は肩幅でトルソーのサイズを決めました。お詰めになったお肉は幅広のレースや布で巻いておくと、サイズが変わったときに足したり引いたりが簡単です。

First grape

 We moved here 2017 and found a grape tree in the garden. It was a tree planted by a person who lived in the past. There was no shelf, so the leaves mixed with weeds. After years of effort, we got a decent grape this year !

　越した時に葡萄の木を見つけました。以前住んでいた人が植えていたようです。ずっと雑草と化していたんですが、棚を作ったり介抱したりと、今年になって初めて、まともな実がなりました。８月に収穫したんですが、透明感があって宝石のような綺麗な色をしています。

I don't know what kind. Small and transparent, look like jewels.

Squeezed the grapes into juice, added sugar and boiled, I make syrup. The color is brown. The taste is honey, not grapes, strangely..!!

葡萄を絞ってジュースにしてお砂糖と煮詰めてシロップにしました。色は茶色、味はなんと蜂蜜味。美味しい！来年はワインにしたい、けど、日本の法律で簡単に試せないのが残念。

I want to make wine next year, but Japan has a strict low about alcohol and can't make easy. It's very disappointing. 

Lace socks

I like this beautiful lace socks. I knitted from the book of "52 weeks of socks". ( No 16 TOIVOHARJU. The yarn, "The Uncommon thread" , color Smog. ) It's a good book, I'll knit something lovely one again :)

 暑い日が続きますがコロナも大変なことになっているし、大丈夫ですか？

オリンピックがこんな年で本当に残念でしたね。選手全員に金メダルをあげたくなります。

　で、２ケ月かけて靴下を１足編みました。とてもいい感じのができました。ついでにいくつか最近の写真を載せますね。

　最近、犬と猫がやっと一緒に寝れるようになりましたが、実に３年もかかりました。犬は本当に心が広い生き物で、猫が決めたルールも人間の決まりも、すんなり覚えてくれました。

It's hot here at "36 degrees "96.8 F ". Just watering the garden makes me tried... I miss winter already !

アイスクリームを作ったり、時々ミシンもやっています。暑くて庭がカラッカラなので水やりに時間がかかって、顔が真っ黒！冬が早くも恋しいです。。
