Footprints in the snow

It snowed where I live. It looks like winter is finally here !

ここでも数年ぶりに雪が降りました。やっと冬がきたように感じます。雪の上の足跡が面白くて色々と写真に撮りました。最初は水鳥です、夜になるとうちの屋根で寝ているサギだと思われます。

The footprints of some animals pleased me. It is the footprint of a waterfowl. The river is right there, one of them seems to be sleeping on the roof of our house.

テンとイタチは冬の毛皮の色で見分けがつきますが、うちの庭に来るのはテンでした。鶏を持っていこうと頑張って数日通っていましたが、こっちも対策はしてあるので、とうとうあきらめたようです。黄金の素晴らしい毛皮をしています。鶏を殺すので農家では嫌われますが肉はうまくないそうです。爪も牙もするどいです、足跡は二つ可愛く並んでいるのが特徴です。あの走り方ですからね

Footprints of テン Martens (?). They are similar to ferrets, but have more great golden fur, and terrifying teeth and nails. They are disliked by farmers because they kill chickens. The feature is that two are lined up.

そして愛くるしいタヌキ。むにゅっと軟らかそうに静かについています。アライグマに似ていますが全く別の生き物で、野菜も荒らさないし落ちた果物または大好物がミミズ　の　人に無害な生き物です。イヌ科。庭にタヌキの公共トイレ（ため糞）があり、うちにはモモちゃんと呼んでいる可愛いタヌキがいます。

And this is the footprint of lovable "tanuki". It looks just like a raccoon, but it's a completely different creature. The staple food is earthworms. A creature that is harmless to humans, Classification is a same as a dog. 

そしてうちのワンコの足跡。もしかすると初めて見たかもしれない雪、転がるように走ってはしゃいでおりました。

向こう側で野ウサギの足跡も見ました。ここまでは私の知る範囲ですが、ぎょっとしたのはテンの足跡の横にキツネらしき足跡があること。キツネはいない。でも歩幅が広すぎる。野良犬はいないしと、しばらく動揺していました。もしかしたら猫が走っただけかもしれないですね

I also saw the footprints of rabbit on the other side.  But this was scary, on matter what, the fox footprints are sideways to the marten. The stride is large. There are no stray dogs around here. or did cat run ?

I noticed that there were many animals in the garden, but they were nocturnal and cautious... The countryside is lively. 

越した時は静まり返っていると思っていましたが、実際は田舎には動物がたくさんいて、非常に賑やかです。

At the end of the year

 I knit 6 pairs of socks that I was asked to. It seems to endless that knitting for the family. I want to use summer knitting time more effectively next year. but lots of garden work.... What kind of year were you this year ? I pray that you have nothing sad. 

I had a hard time, I myself became a disabled person. I am hearing impaired. The sound disappears from my world. There was a sign from before. However, there is a some kind of shock in receiving a disability certificate from the country. Symptoms is progressing , so it will be silent in 10 years in me. Sadly, I can't even remember the sound of rain. It is also sad that family and friends are sad for me. I strive for smooth communication, It is not easy. but I don't have a scary illness. There are various discounts in Japan to have disability. I am blessed to have a gently life. 

Think of it is one test when a big problem happens. You will find something answer in suffering. 

もう年末ですね。靴下やマフラーなどの消耗品を編むくらいしか今年はできませんでした。来年はもっと夏の時間も利用したいけど庭もあるしどうかしら。今年はどんな年でしたか？辛いことがなかったといいですが。

そういう私もハードなもので、とうとう障害者手帳もちとなりました。聴覚障害ですが、進行しているため、わずかに聞こえている音もあと１０年でなくなります。雨の音が思い出せないのも悲しいですが、まさかこの年で親を悲しませるとは思いもしないものです。音がしないためコミュニケーションがうまくできませんが、それ以外に大きな問題があるわけではない。穏やかに生きている、だけでも幸せなこと。そんなふうに今は考えています。何かと介抱してくれる夫にも感謝です。

　下の写真は今やっている編み物いろいろ。夫の靴下、私のミトン、セーターと、赤いベストは小さすぎてどうしようかしらというところ。

Dye with acorn

The result was a failure. but leave it here for a record.

どんぐりで毛糸を染めてみました。結果からいって失敗したのですが、記録として残しておきますね。どんぐりそのものでも染まるそうですが、本によると、どんぐりのハカマ（帽子）の方がより濃くなるそうです。ウール１００ｇに対して１００ｇのハカマというところ１８０ｇ用意しました。子供の手を借りられると早いと思いますヨ

Dye with an acorn "hat".  Acorns can be dyed, but the cupule is more darker. was written in the dyeing book of 70's that I found.

Need cupule that weighs the same as the wool.  I prepared a 180g cupules for 100g of yarn. 

Boil cupule in 10 times more water for 1 hour. Remove the cupules with cloth or colander. In the stain, add yarn and simmer for 20 minutes.  Let it cool, squeeze it lightly ( This stain discarded or boil again to darken the color.) then soak yarn in mordant and simmer for 20 minutes.

そのハカマを１０倍の湯で１時間煮てから布かザルでこします、できあがった染色液に毛糸を入れて2０分煮て、そのまま冷やし、軽く絞ってから、今度は媒染液に入れてさらに２０分煮ます。媒染液は、お酢50ｃｃと10円玉11枚を数日おいて、水で薄めたものを使いましたが、かなり薄い緑色なので漬けた日数が足りなかったのかなと思います。

The mordant liquid was handmade. Put a copper coin in vinegar and leave it for a few days to make a green liquid, dilute it with water and use.

I kept it in the kitchen

Vinegar 50cc, 11 Coins. It was supposed to be a little more green... Maybe not enough days to soak. It was only pickled for 5 days.

If you want to give it a try, think about how to darken the staining liquid.

For reference, according to my dyeing book, if the mordant is copper, wool will be green.

試してみたい方は私の失敗例を参考に、染色液をいかに濃く作るか、媒染液を漬ける日数など工夫してみて下さいね。ちなみに本によりますと、写真左がミョウバン、中央が銅（今回の10円）右はクロムを媒染液としたときだそうです。緑色の毛糸になるとわくわくしていたんだけど。。

Firewood

 Do you have any measures against global warming ? We turned the heating into firewood. When a fallen tree rots, 25 times more methane gas is generated. Growing forests and using firewood creates an earth-friendly cycle. 

We chose a small stove of "Jotul F3". 

Our house is not large, so this one will keep all the rooms warm. I am surprised at the power of wood. 

地球温暖化対策を何かしていますか？　私たちは薪ストーブを導入しました。木が倒れて放置されると、腐って25倍のメタンガスを発生するそうです。人が燃やすことで環境にやさしいサイクルが生まれます。選んだのはヨツールのF3という小さなストーブですが、４LDKの全てが温まります。木のパワーってすごいですね。

最近は住宅街向けの煙の少ない薪ストーブもあるようですが、薪が簡単に手に入る環境というのも必要なので、難しいですね。

Granny square blanket 膝掛け

 This blanket is really easy to make. The patterns will be found on the internet for free. There seems to be a free video ? 

What is interesting is you can make it as big as you want, with your favorite color.

グラニースクエアーのブランケットを編みました。編み方はとても簡単で、編み図もネットで無料でのっています。大きさも色も好きなようにできるのが面白いところですね。去年は３色使い、今年は２色で仕上げました。意外と暖かいのですよ、秋支度にぜひどうぞ

This is my last year's work. I used 3 colors, look a little vintage. 

And this year's work. I used only 2 colors. 

The blanket is warmer than I imagine, How about getting ready for autumn ?

Maybe I will knit another one :)
